Building Code Clause F8 provides for the identification of escape routes, hazards, emergency-related safety features and accessible facilities. Signs are required to identify escape routes, emergency-related safety features, potential hazards, accessible routes and facilities for people with disabilities.
F8/AS1 describes one way of meeting the requirements of Clause F8 for the design and provision of signage in and around buildings.
Scope
Included are safety signs, exit signs, fire related safety feature signs, hazard signs, and signs for access and facilities for people with disabilities. Signs are not required for detached dwellings, within household units in multi-unit dwellings or within hotel and motel suites. Signs for persons with disabilities are only required in buildings to which section 118 of the Building Act 2004 applies.
