Description
C Protection from Fire Acceptable Solution C/AS1 Second Edition Amendment 1 provides a compliance pathway for meeting the fire safety requirements of Clauses C1 to C6 of the New Zealand Building Code for buildings in risk group SH (sleeping residential and outbuildings).
This includes stand-alone houses, townhouses, and low-rise multi-unit dwellings.
The amendment includes references to the Building Product Specifications for fire test methods. Definitions and modifications to referenced standards have been updated accordingly.
Scope
This acceptable solution applies to risk group SH including buildings where people sleep and outbuildings:
- a) detached dwellings with a single household unit such as stand-alone houses; and
- b) attached townhouses; and
- c) low-rise multi-unit dwellings with no more than one household unit above another and where each household unit has an escape route independent of all other household units, and including associated garages or carports whether or not they are part of the same building. Where there is one household unit above another, each household unit shall be a single-storey and the escape height shall be less than 4.0 m; and
- d) detached dwellings used as boarding houses for fewer than six people (not including members of the residing family); and
- e) garages that are part of a household unit; and
- f) garages shared by more than one household unit where the garage is fire separated from each adjacent household unit with fire rated construction having an FRR of no less than 30/30/30; and
- g) outbuildings.
