Description

PD CEN/TS 17006 provides guidance, specifications, and requirements on the use of Continuous Compaction Control (CCC) as a quality control method in earthworks by means of roller integrated dynamic measuring, and documentation systems.

PD CEN/TS 17006 provides guidance on specifications, and requirements on the use of Continuous Compaction Control (CCC) in during general civil engineering, and building works. The use of PD CEN/TS 17006 can confer a number of benefits to the earthwork's compaction process. These include:

  • Monitoring, and recording (quality control) of the coverage of compaction plant including the number of passes applied at a given location as an aid to compaction control using a method specification
  • Identification of soft spots (quality assurance) to allow their remediation during the construction process, and the monitoring of the relative increase in compaction as successive passes are applied. This is particularly helpful in ensuring that over-stressing does not occur resulting in low density, and high air voids
  • Determination of the stiffness or relative density of a compacted material subject to performance specification.

Scope

PD CEN/TS 17006 is suitable for soils, granular materials, and rockfill materials which can be compacted using vibratory rollers.

Continuous Compaction Control (CCC) technology based on the measure of propel energy necessary to overcome the rolling resistance is also available and can be used as a quality control method in earthworks. The propelling power of the compactor provides an indication of the material stiffness, and it is measured as a function of the machine's ground speed, slope angle, and rolling resistance. This method is not included in PD CEN/TS 17006.
