Description
This Standard discusses ventilation for buildings’ air handling units (AHU). Proper ventilation keeps the air fresh and healthy indoors. Air handling units form part of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system (HVAC) that supplies, circulates, and extracts air from buildings.
It specifies requirements and testing for rating and performance of Non-Residential Ventilation Units (NRVUs), specifically Air Handling Units (AHUs). BS EN 13053 applies to tests in a laboratory and in situ. BS EN 13053 is applicable both for mass-produced air handling units and tailor-made Air Handling Units.
This Standard applies to AHU and individual sections of AHU with the designed airflow > 250 m3 · h−1. BS EN 13053 applies to UVUs with additional air treatment components in addition to filtration.
Scope
This Standard does not include:
- Residential unidirectional and bidirectional ventilation units.
- Nonresidential unidirectional ventilation units which consist of only a casing, a fan with or without filter.
