Description
This British Standard is a complementaryto BS EN 206, which applies to concrete for structures cast in situ, precast structures and structural precast products for buildings and civil engineering structures.
It specifies requirements for the constituent materials of concrete, properties of fresh and hardened concrete and verification of these properties, limitations for concrete composition, specification of concrete, delivery of fresh concrete, production control procedures and conformity criteria and evaluation of conformity.
Scope
Annex A of this British Standard provides guidance on the concrete quality to be specified for selected exposure classes, intended working life and nominal cover to normal reinforcement.
It does not give guidance on stainless steel and non‑metallic reinforcement. Guidance on nominal cover to reinforcement for structural and fire consideration is available in other publications, e.g. structural design codes of practice.
This part of BS 8500 complements BS EN 206. It provides United Kingdom national provisions where required or permitted by BS EN 206. It also covers materials, methods of testing and procedures that are outside the scope of BS EN 206, but within national experience.
