This Standard describes methods for test the tensile properties of general purpose steel, including the -
- definitions and symbols;
- form and dimensions of standard test pieces;
- test piece preparation and testing equipment.
Procedures for determining tensile properties at room temperatures:
- proof stress,
- permanent stress,
- tensile strength,
- percentage elongation,
- with appropriate proving tests.
The foreword gives guidance for drafting materials specifications.
