This Standard specifies requirements additional to those in AS 1418.1 covering builders hoists and associated equipment. Types included are materials hoists, concrete skip hoists and personnel and materials hoists as defined in AS 2549. Application, classification, loads, load combinations, design, construction, marking and testing are covered. Appendices provide information that should be supplied with tender for supply of a hoist and hazards which should be considered by the designer when designing the hoist.
Scope
This Standard sets out requirements for temporary hoists for use in the building industry.
It does not apply to tower cranes (see AS 1418.4), mobile and vehicle loading cranes (see AS 1418.5), mining hoists, mast climbing work platforms (see AS 1418.16), rope-guided hoists, conveyors (see AS 1755) and elevating work platforms (see AS 1418.10).
Note: See Appendix A for guidance on information to be supplied with tender. Guidance on the requirements for operation, inspection and maintenance to ensure safe use of builders’ hoists and associated equipment is given in AS 2550.7.
