Description
This Standard specifies general requirements for cranes as defined in AS 2549. Includes the design of cranes by the traditional working stress method and also allows design by the limit states method.
Note: There are no set of generally accepted partial load factors necessary for crane design by the limit states method are available.
Scope
This Standard does not include powered industrial trucks as defined in AS 2359. The term ‘crane’ used herein applies to a crane, hoist or winch as appropriate.
Notes:
- Specific requirements for particular types of cranes and associated equipment are specified in other parts of AS 1418; these requirements take precedence over corresponding requirements in this Standard where any difference exists. Appendix A outlines the structure of the AS 1418 series of Standards.
- Requirements for the selection, operation and maintenance of cranes are given in the appropriate part of AS 2550.
