Description
MBIE regularly consults on changes to selected Building Code acceptable solutions and verification methods, providing an opportunity for the public and the building and construction sector to have their say on the proposed changes. MBIE continuously updates these Building Code documents to support New Zealand to deliver safe, healthy and durable buildings. The changes proposed in the 2022 Building Code updates focussed on plumbing and drainage, protection from fire and the structural stability of hollow-core floors.
In November 2022, MBIE announced decisions to reduce the amount of lead contained in plumbing products and a change regarding the use of a Verification Method for the structural stability of hollow-core floors.
Decisions have now been made on the remaining proposals for plumbing and drainage, and protection from fire.
MBIE will be publishing the revised acceptable solution and verification method documents in November 2023. This allows us time to prepare the necessary supporting educational material such as guidance documents, learning modules and webinars. By announcing these decisions prior to the publication of the revised Building Code documents, our aim is to provide certainty and direction to the sector, to give manufacturers, suppliers and installers time to comply with the new requirements, and to prepare information and education to support the sector and public with the changes.
