Description
This Standard is developed from AS 3100-1985; serves instead of AS 3100 as the New Zealand reference document for joint standards in the AS 3100 series. Sets out basic electrical safety requirements for apparatus to be used in electrical installations, and includes appliances and wiring accessories not covered by an individual Standard for particular requirements.
Scope
This Standard covers apparatus for supply at voltages above 32 V a.c. or 50 V d.c., up to 650 V, and provides protection from electric shock and fire. it establishes design and construction requirements such as materials and components, mechanical strength, durability, mechanical protection of wiring, guarding and insulating of live parts (including minimum clearances, creepage distances and insulation resistance; and maximum leakage currents), connection to supply, earthing, and temperature-rise and fire-risk criteria; also marking and tests.
Not adequate for apparatus in special situations such as medical treatment areas, or flammable atmospheres. Approved electrical safety Standard.
