Description

The purpose of this resource is to help the owners of agricultural dams determine whether they have a classifiable dam and are therefore impacted by the Building (Dam Safety) Regulations 2022.

This resource focuses particularly on the size range and typical shapes that will be found on farms and growing operations used for irrigation, stock or other water uses.

This resource will help the dam owners:

  1. Measure the height of the dam
  2. Measure the surface area of the reservoir
  3. Calculate the stored volume of the dam

Once the height and stored volume of the dam are known, the owners can then determine if the regulations apply to them, what their next steps are, and whether they need to engage a technical practitioner to obtain more precise measurements of their dam and to support them with their responsibilities as per the regulations.
