Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape is a tear-resistant, UV-stable, pressure-sensitive flexible flashing tape manufactured from a butyl rubber copolymer. It is available in 75 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm widths on 23 m rolls.

Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape is intended to be used as a self-adhesive flashing tape around window and door joinery openings as a secondary water-resistant barrier. It is used to seal junctions between framing and wall underlays, and to provide weather protection at sill, jamb, and head interfaces. The 75mm width may also be used to form corner “butterflies” and as a head flashing tape.

Scope

1. Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape shall be used in buildings:

  • a) within the scope of Acceptable Solution E2/AS1
  • b) in wind zones up to and including Extra High, as defined in NZS 3604
  • c) with wall underlays that meet the requirements of E2/AS1 and the Building Product Specifications.

2. Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape shall be installed in accordance with Marshall Innovations’ installation instructions and the WANZ Guide to Window Installation.

3. Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape shall be covered within 180 days (6 months) of installation to limit exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

4. The compatibility of Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape shall be confirmed with the substrate supplier when used over waterproofing membranes, coatings, rigid air barriers, and sealants. The substrate shall be clean, dry, and free from contaminants.

5. Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape may be installed in temperatures between 0°C and 80°C, however cold substrates may reduce initial adhesion.

6. Maxi-Butyl Flashing Tape shall not be used in areas where it has the potential to be exposed to heat such as chimney flues.
