Description
The SHIELD Mastic Asphalt System is used as a waterproof roofing membrane and as a waterproofed paving system for elevated decks and car parks for vehicle loading.
The SHIELD Mastic Asphalt System is a polymer modified mastic asphalt waterproofing and paving system for elevated decks and car parks.
The system is applied in one or two layers to build up a waterproof monolithic layer of up to 60 mm thickness depending on the specific application.
The SHIELD Mastic Asphalt System comprises the following components:
- ShieldFLEX R
- ShieldFLEX P
- glass fibre tissue
- Casali Dermafil
- Allco barrier tape
- ShieldFLASH U
- ShieldFLASH T and
- primer upstand.
Scope
1. The SHIELD Mastic Asphalt System shall be installed in accordance with the SHIELD Mastic Asphalt Technical Manual 004.
2. Timber substrate structures shall be designed in accordance with NZS3604:2011 as a heavy roof, provided the SHIELD Mastic Asphalt System does not exceed 22 mm.
3. All plywood sheets shall be CCA treated to H3.2. The Plywood shall be a minimum of 17 mm thickness and comply with AS/NZS 2269.0:2012.
4. Concrete and other specifically designed substrates shall be designed in accordance with verification method B1/VM1 using the structural design actions in AS/NZS1170.1:2002.
5. A separation layer shall be placed between the substrate and mastic asphalt topping.
6. The substrate shall be dry, with no sharp projections. All installations shall only be carried out by SHIELD Waterproofing Ltd approved applicators (contact the certificate holder for list of approved applicators).
7. The design and construction of the substrate and movement and control joints is specific to each building and is outside the scope of this certificate.
8. The weathertightness design of all junctions on specifically designed buildings is outside the scope of this certificate.
9. Roofing Falls (ShieldFLEX R/ShieldTEC): The system is suitable for flat roofs with a minimum finished fall of 1:80, or zero fall roofs with a finished fall between 0 and 1:80. For design purposes, twice the minimum fall (1:40) should be assumed unless a detailed analysis of the roof (including deflection and direction of falls) is available.
10. Vehicle Access Ramps (ShieldFLEX P): External ramps for cars, light commercial, and heavy commercial vehicles must not exceed a 1:10 gradient. The surface must be cross-tamped to provide traction, with tamps not exceeding 5 mm in height to prevent the waterproofing layer from becoming too thin.
