Description
The Volclay® Waterproofing System is used as a waterproofing membrane below ground to protect basements and other underground structures against water penetration and water vapour transmission from the ground.
The Volclay® Waterproofing System consists of a Voltex® Membrane and ancillary products (refer to section 10) that uses sodium bentonite as the principle waterproofing component.
The Volclay® Waterproofing System a waterproofing membrane approximately 6.5 mm thick consisting of two polypropylene geotextiles, one woven and one non-woven, enclosing granular sodium bentonite at a minimum weight of 4.8 kg/m2.
Scope
1. The Volclay® Waterproofing System is certified
- a) for use as:
- i. an external waterproof tanking membrane to in-situ concrete, precast concrete and concrete masonry basement constructions subject to hydrostatic pressures of up to 2 bar (20 metres); and,
- b) where ground water conductivity does not exceed 2,500 μS/cm.
2. The Volclay® Waterproofing System shall:
- a) be installed in accordance with the Allco Volclay® Tanking Details and Install Guide V3, July 2024, and
- b) be used adequately confined and protected against damage during construction and in service; and
- c) be backfilled as soon as possible after placing the membrane, with backfill material free from builder's debris and angular aggregate and compacted to a minimum 85% modified Proctor.
