Description
The Viking Phoenix Super APAO Waterproofing System is a fully bonded, double layer, torch-on waterproofing system for use on non-trafficable roofs, decks, balconies, gutters and parapets.
The Viking Phoenix Super APAO Waterproofing System is a two-layer torch-applied, polyester-reinforced amorphous-poly-alpha-olefin (APAO) modified bitumen roof waterproofing membrane, with either a silica sand or slate finish upper surface and a thermofusible thermoplastic film on the lower surface.
The two layers consist of a 3mm or 4mm thick Base-sheet which is torch-applied or self-adhered to a primed substrate, and a 4mm thick Black or Grey coloured ceramic-chip Cap sheet.
Phoenix Super APAO Base is coloured black and supplied in rolls 4 mm thick, 1 m wide and 10 m long.
Phoenix Super APAO Cap Ceramic is available in various ceramic chip colours and supplied in rolls 4 mm thick, 1m wide and 10 m long.
Scope
1. The Viking Phoenix Super APAO Waterproofing System is certified for use on buildings:
- a. Where the sub-structure is:
- i. Timber framed designed in accordance with NZS3604:2011 as a light roof; or
- ii. Steel framed designed in accordance with NASH 2 as a light roof; or
- iii. Concrete or other specifically designed sub-structure designed in accordance with verification method B1/VM1 (Amendment 15) using the structural design actions in AS/NZS1170:2002; and
- b. Situated:
- i. In Wind Zones, up to, and including, Extra High (as defined in NZS 3604:2011), and within the scope
- ii. limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 Third Edition including amendment 10 para 1.1 with
- iii. regards to building height; or
- iv. In wind pressures up to a maximum design differential ultimate limit state (ULS) of 6 kPa; and
- v. In any expose zone (as defined in NZS3604:2011) except microclimates, and
- c. Where the substrate for the membrane is:
- i. Timber or plywood (CCA or MCA H3.2 treated);
- ii. Concrete (cast in-situ or pre-cast);
- iii. Substrates of Plywood, concrete or Strandsarking® (roof only), and
- d. Where the roof or deck is pitched or nominally flat (1:80) and gutters have a minimum fall of 1:100.
2. The Viking Phoenix Super APAO Waterproofing System shall:
- a. Be designed and installed in accordance with the Viking Torch-on Applicator Handbook V6 2024 and the details set out on drawing indexed in Viking Torch-on Viking Roofspec Details Schedule (Ref VIK_TOR_0000_INDEX001), 23 November 2020, and
- b. Be installed by Viking Roofspec approved applicators (contact certificate holder for list of approved applicators), and
- c. Be separated or protected from heat sources such as fireplaces, heating appliances and chimneys, and
- d. Be protected from physical damage by a pedestal protection system or other means where the where the membrane is on a trafficable area of a roof or deck and subject to pedestrian traffic other than for installation and general maintenance.
3. This certification does not include:
- a. The design and construction of the substrate and movement / control joints, or
- b. The weather tightness design of junctions between building elements on specifically designed buildings; applications where ancillary components other than those provided by Viking Roofspec listed in the installation manual are substituted with alternative products, or
- c. Integral roof gardens, steps within the roof surface and direct downpipe discharge to the roof level.
