Description
LumberTherm Horizontal and Vertical Cladding Systems are external cladding systems direct fixed or on a nominal 20 mm or 45 mm drained and ventilated cavity.
The LumberTherm cladding system comprises vertically or horizontally fixed weatherboards installed over H3.2 treated timber castellated cavity battens to form a non-structural nominal 20mm cavity or structurally fixed 45 mm cavity. LumberTherm PureOak is a thermally modified Red Oak hardwood and is available with smooth, brushed or bandsawn faces in the following profiles:
- Bevelback profile weatherboard (for horizontal fixing)
- Rusticated profile weatherboard (for horizontal fixing)
- Shiplap profile Weatherboard (for vertical fixing)
- Board and Batten (for vertical fixing)
Scope
1. The LumberTherm Horizontal and Vertical Cladding Systems are certified for use on timber-framed buildings:
- a) with walls designed:
- i. in accordance with NZS3604 as modified by Acceptable Solution B1/AS1 and within the scope of Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 Subsection 1.1.1, or of at least equivalent stiffness to the framing provisions of NZS3604, and situated in Wind Zones (as defined in NZS 3604) up to and including Extra High; or
- ii. in accordance with Verification Method B1/VM1 up to a maximum design differential ultimate limit state (ULS) wind pressure of 2.5 kPa;
- b) up to 10 m in height, and
- c) with a risk score of 0-20 (except as in Condition 2 (b) (ii) below), calculated in accordance with Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 Tables 3.1.2.1 and 3.1.3.1, and
- d) situated:
- i. in all exposure zones (excluding microclimates) as defined in NZS3604, Paragraph 4.2.4, and
- ii. more than 1m from a relevant boundary;
2. The LumberTherm Horizontal and Vertical Cladding Systems shall:
- a) be fixed over a flexible building underlay or rigid air barrier in accordance with Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 and the applicable Installation Guide and Profile document:

- b) Either
- i. incorporate a nominal 20 mm or 45 mm drained cavity formed by H3.2 radiata battens for weatherboards installed horizontally (Bevelback and Rusticated) and castellated H3.2 radiata battens for weatherboards fixed vertically (Vertical Shiplap and Board and Batten), or
- ii. may be direct fixed where the weatherboard profile is
- 1) Bevelback or Board and Batten and the risk score is not greater than 12;
- 2) Rusticated or Vertical Shiplap and the risk score is not greater than 6, and
- c) be fixed:
- i. on vertical, flat surfaces, and
- ii. and using stainless-steel fixings as specified, and
- d) only incorporate aluminium framed window and door joinery complying with NZS 4211:2008 - Specification for performance of windows which shall be installed with vertical jambs and horizontal heads and sills.
