Description

The Abodo Weatherboard Cladding System consists of weatherboards fixed to cavity battens forming a drained cavity. Weatherboard profiles include Bevelback, Vertical Shiplap, Rusticated and Secret fixing. The weatherboards are available with a smooth dressed face (for a paint finish) or a light band sawn or brushed face (for a stain finish) and manufactured from a range of materials:

  • Sand – H3.2 treated radiata pine
  • Vulcan – thermally modified radiata pine
  • Stratos – Azole treated radiata pine (H3.1)
  • Tundra – Douglas fir heart wood
  • Vaaro – Fire retardant treated timber.

Abodo Weatherboard Cladding Systems are exterior wall claddings for use over a drained cavity. Vaaro can also be used as an interior lining where C3.4 (a) obligations apply.

Scope

1. The Abodo Weatherboard Cladding System is certified for use in buildings with a cavity

  • a. within the scope of Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 subsection 1.1.1 and with a risk score no greater than 20 with framing to either:
    • i. NZS3604:2011 Timber-framed buildings, or;
    • ii. NASH Standard Part 2: May 2019 Light Steel Framed Buildings, or;
  • b. buildings specifically engineering designed for wind pressures up to a maximum ultimate state (ULS) of 2.5 Kpa with fixings either
    • i. 8g stainless steel wood screws at 600 mm maximum centres to each weatherboard with the length of screw to be selected to give a
      minimum of 30 mm penetration into the supporting timber. Screw locations shall be to the Abodo CodeMark Weatherboard
      System Manual dated April 2020, or;
    • ii. 2/3.15 diameter x 90 mm stainless steel ring shank nails at 600 mm maximum centres to areas at building corners within a distance
      of 20% of the wall length. A single nail at 600 maximum centres may be used outside these areas, and;
  • c. with a rigid underlay:
    • i. In all locations designated as Extra High Zone and above, or;
    • ii. When used in external walls of unlined attached garages and;
  • d. situated:
    • i. in all exposure zones (excluding microclimates) as defined in NZS3604:2011, Paragraph 4.2.4, and;
    • ii. more than 1m from a relevant boundary (except Vaaro), and;
  • e. with joinery meeting the requirements of subsection 4.4.1 of the Building Product Specifications (for the relevant wind loadings), and;
  • f. with Stainless steel, copper or silicon bronze fixings in ACQ or Cu azole treated weatherboards (i.e. Sand).

2. Use of the Secret Fixings in specifically engineering buildings is limited to wind loads of 1.8 kPa but with no limit as to building height.

3. Use of Vaaro as an internal lining is limited to of buildings where a Material group number of 1-S or greater is required.

4. Fire design using Vaaro shall be done using an appropriate acceptable solution or verification method for C Protection from Fire.

5. The Abodo Weatherboard Cladding System shall be installed in accordance with Abodo CodeMark Weatherboard Cladding Manual April 2020.
