Description
Knauf Insulation Smart Facade is a high-density, water-repellent glass mineral wool insulation with a weather-protective black woven glass textile facing, designed for the external insulation of buildings behind a ventilated cavity and outer cladding.
Non-combustible, moisture-resistant and vapour-permeable, Smart Facade delivers fire, thermal and acoustic performance and is designed to withstand weather exposure during installation.
Scope
1. Knauf Insulation Smart Facade is certified for use as a non-combustible (A1 classification) external insulation component of a rainscreen facade system on buildings:
- a. When installed with an E2 – External Moisture compliant weather resistant facade system with an external drained and ventilated cavity between the external face of the Knauf Insulation Smart Facade components and the internal face of the facade cladding, and
- b. Supported by Timber, Steel, Masonry, Concrete or CLT sub-structures, and
- c. Located in all Exposure Zones (except for microclimates) as defined in NZS 3604:2011, provided all fasteners and fixings are in accordance with section 4 of NZS 3604:2011.
When non-combustible and/or intumescent cavity barriers are required, they shall be installed in accordance with NZBC Acceptable Solution C/AS2.
2. The E2 – External Moisture compliant weather resistant facade cladding system (with ventilated external cavity) shall be installed and enclosed within 60 days of installation of the Knauf Insulation Smart Facade insulation material to prevent damage or excessive exposure to UV light.
3. Knauf Insulation Smart Facade must be specified, installed and maintained in accordance with the following documentation referenced as the Smart Facade applicable technical literature:
- a. Smart Facade Brochure NZ, v1.2 May 2026, and
- b. Smart Facade Install Guide for Ventilated facades NZ, v2.02 May 2026, and
- c. Smart Facade Insulation – Technical Datasheet NZ, v0.7 July 2025, and
- d. NZS 4246 (where applicable).
4. Knauf Insulation Smart Facade external insulation shall be installed by suitably qualified building professionals, in accordance with the applicable technical literature.
5. The designer shall provide a signed Declaration for submission with a building consent application that the use of this product in the proposed building work falls within the scope of this certificate and that all design conditions of this certificate are satisfied.
6. The installer shall supply a signed Declaration that the product has been installed in accordance with the installation conditions of this certificate, for consideration for issuing a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC).
