Description
This Standard specifies identification and manufacturing tolerances for extension and compensating cables (mineral insulated extension and compensating cables are not included) provided directly to users of industrial processes.
The requirements for extension and compensating cables for use in industrial process control is specified in this Standard.
Extension and compensating cables may consist of a single strand (solid) wire or multistranded wire for which BS EN IEC 60584-3 is applied.
Scope
This Standard covers the tolerance classes for extension and compensating cables when used at temperatures within the ranges provided. As a result, the corresponding measuring junction temperature can be implied.
The relevant colour coding standards in BS EN 60584-3 also help in easy identification of insulation of negative and positive conductor, based on the thermocouple type.
Compliance to this standard ensures high accuracy in temperature reading, given the appropriate dimensions and tolerances of extension and compensating cables that carry signals to the sensor.
