Description
The design of the building through its orientation, sizing and location of windows, and insulation to more than the minimum required by NZ Building Code can make the best use of sun and wind for heating, cooling and ventilation.
This guide explains the technical background to good passive design, NZBC clauses and standards requirement.
Scope
This second edition of Passive Design has been completely updated. The knowledge coming from BRANZ research in recent years has been included, ans new building products or materials have been considered. There is new information in areas such as insulation, warm roofs and thermal mass, and resources such as Window Energy Efficiency Rating Systems (WEERS) that can be employed to improve the performance and sustainability of our dwellings.
More detailed information about active energy systems and other aspects of sustainable design can be found in the companion volumes to this guide.
