This determination considers whether a wall made of ponga logs, that is located on or near a property boundary, is a 'retaining wall' and a 'building'. It also considers whether the structure complies with Building Code clauses B1 Structure and B2 Durability.

Decision

In accordance with section 188 of the Building Act 2004, it was determined that:

  1. The section of ponga wall described in paragraph 2.3.4 does not comply with Clause B1 Structure.
  2. The section of ponga wall described in paragraph 2.3.4 does not comply with Clause B2 Durability.
