Consultation open - Lead in plumbing products transition period extension

Consultation open on the lead in plumbing products transition period extension from 2 April - 23 April 2024.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, MBIE proceeded with the proposed changes to Acceptable Solution G12/AS1, limiting the maximum quantity of lead in plumbing products and the proposed transition period ending on 1 September 2025.

On 24 April 2023, Australia extended their transition period end date by eight months, to 1 May 2026.

We are now proposing to extend the transition period end date for the new lead in plumbing product provision in New Zealand, to 1 May 2026. This is an extension of eight months and aligns with the transition period end date in Australia.

MBIE is also taking this opportunity to consult and receive feedback on:

  • a proposed definition of the term "lead free"
  • extending the transition period end date for the new dezincification resistant copper alloy provision

editorial changes to Building Code clause G12 Water Supplies.
