Description

This report forms the second phase of an investigation into the wind and earthquake racking resistance of timber piles used under New Zealand houses.

This second phase reports on site meansuresments of the lateral strengths of piles when cast into the ground (by cyclic load testing representative pile bracing systems, tested under various ground conditions). For each pile and soil type, time history computer analytical simulation was used to determine earthquake static design loads from the averaged measured pinched hysteresis loops.

The first phase is published as BRANZ Study Report SR 046.
