Description

This Guidance is for building consent authorities, designers and contractors who need to use wall or ceiling linings different from those specified in the building consent.

This guidance provides the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) position on the appropriate way to apply the Building (Minor Variations) Regulations 2009 when substituting plasterboard wall and ceiling linings.

It promotes clarity and certainty for all parties regarding how minor variations involving plasterboard and similar wall and ceiling linings are dealt with.

This guidance must be read in conjunction with the more general product substitution guidance, which was published by MBIE in November 2021.

We have updated our recently released product substitution guidance for plasterboard elements (Version 3).

This update provides further guidance with consideration of specific products and includes a list of plasterboards and their suitability for substitution.
