Description
This practical guide provides a framework for the development of an alternative solution to demonstrate compliance with New Zealand Building Code clauses C1–C6 Protection from fire.
Scope
The intention is for the design guide to be used as an alternative solution framework for fire safety design of new residential community housing. It will help building consent authorities to determine a baseline level of fire safety compliance, taking specific occupant characteristics and their vulnerabilities into account.
In addition, it provides a baseline level of compliance for assessing the fire safety of existing buildings in accordance with Section 112 of the Building Act where fire safety upgrades are required to a level that is ‘As Near As is Reasonably Practicable’ to the Building Code.
It is not mandatory to follow this design guide.
