Description

Verification Method H1/VM1 provides a means of compliance with Building Code Clause H1 Energy Efficiency.

Verification Method H1/VM1 applies to:

  • a) housing; and
  • b) other buildings with a floor area of occupied space no greater than 300 m², that are communal residential, communal non-residential (assembly care only) and commercial buildings.

For buildings that do not meet these characteristics, refer to the Acceptable Solution H1/AS2 or Verification Method H1/VM2 as a means to demonstrate compliance or use an alternative means to demonstrate compliance.

Scope

The Verification Method H1/VM1 does not include:

  • the use of foil insulation,
  • requirements to comply with Building Code clauses H.1.3.1(b), H1.3.4, H1.3.5 or H1.3.6. For these clauses, use an alternative means to demonstrate compliance.

Notes/comments

The main changes from the unamended version of the fifth edition of H1/VM1 are:

  • Alternate thermal resistance requirements have been added for housing where building consent applications are submitted before 1 May 2023.
  • An additional option for determining the construction R-value of concrete slab-on-ground floors has been added to Appendix F, which is only permitted to be used for housing, where building consent applications are submitted before 1 May 2023. This additional option is consistent with the fourth edition of H1/AS1.
  • Throughout the document some obvious errors in the text, formatting and cross-references have been corrected, and minor text clarifications with minor to no impact have been made.
