Description
The Newton CDM Cavity Drain Membrane System© (formerly the Newton® System 500® Basement Water Management System) is comprised of wall and floor waterproof membranes, with PVC ducts and pipes that divert any water in a basement to a sump for disposal by either gravity or a pumped system.
The Newton CDM Cavity Drain Membrane System© is intended for the management of external moisture (ground water) that has entered the basement of a building through the basement walls or floor, directing the moisture to a sump from which it can be pumped.
Scope
1. The Newton CDM Cavity Drain Membrane System© shall be designed, installed and maintained as specified in the Installation Manual NEWTON CDM Cavity Drain Waterproofing System© Newton Waterproofing Systems Rev 9.0 - 05 December 2017.
2. The products shall be used as part of a full cavity drain waterproofing system that safely removes water from the building. In particular, the water shall either drain using gravity, or if mechanically pumped from a sump, the pump system shall operate automatically and provide an alert to building occupants in the event of failure to operate correctly.
3. The management of internal moisture, and the effects of possible condensation, shall be specifically considered by designers when Newton® wall membrane is used in an insulated wall detail.
Designers shall consider appropriate techniques for managing the safe egress of moisture vapour (such as control of the internal environment or use of a vapour control layer on the warm side of the insulation), and in particular the effect of moisture on any materials at, or in contact with, materials below the local dew-point.
