This Standard specifies wrought alloy steels intended for general engineering purposes, supplied in the form of hot-rolled and cold-finished (cold-sized, bright or peeled) bars for machining, bars, blooms, billets and slabs for forging, and as forgings.

The standard series are supplied to specified chemical composition only, and the H series are supplied to specified chemical but subject to end-quench hardenability requirements.
