Description

This report details research into bottom plate anchors used with timber wall framing on concrete floor slabs as provided by NZS3604:1999.

An assessment was made of the load demands on bottom plate anchors under both extreme events (windstorm or earthquake), and in-service loads (general robustness). This showed that the provisions in NZS 3604:1999 are generally satisfactory, but somewhat too high for internal wall.

An experimental study found that the common NZ practice of forming slab edges with concrete masonry header blocks is likely to result in an inferior performance by both generic and proprietary bottom plate anchors.
