Applies to complete steel tubes of longitudinal strips of full thickness having a cross-sectional area generally not less than 40 mm(sup)2.

Does not apply to test pieces machined all over (BS 18:Part 2) or test pieces consisting of strips cut transversely (BS 18:Part 2 or Part 3 depending on whether thickness is equal to or less than 3 mm).
